Covid-19 Changes to Equine Services

FOCUSING ON ESSENTIAL EMERGENCY CARE

KEEPING EVERYONE SAFE

In these unprecedented times, extreme measures have become necessary to help halt the spread of Covid-19, and like everyone in the country, we at Links Vet Group must play our part. Caring for sick animals is in our DNA, and it’s vitally important to us that we continue to be able to provide essential urgent care for our clients’ animals. However, we must do this in a way that helps protect our clients, our staff and ultimately the wider community.

Following instructions from the Government and our ruling body the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, we must now cease our provision of routine preventative health care, and for the time-being provide only essential and emergency care, and do so in a way that minimises face-to-face contact. Therefore, until further notice we shall only carry out Video Consultations and Safe Distance Consultations.

IIMMEDIATE CHANGES TO PROTECT YOU & PROTECT OUR STAFF

As of today we are making the following important changes:

  • Only Essential and Emergency Appointments will be Carried Out. (Click here for more info)
  • Routine Preventative Care is Temporarily Suspended, Including Vaccinations
  • Only Video Consultations and Safe Distance Consultations will be offered (see detail below)
  • New Surgery Hours. We will be operating shorter hours and must suspend weekend opening, but this will enable us to keep all branches open, apart from our Dunbar branch

Monday to Friday

Haddington: 9.00 am to 5.00 pm

Musselburgh & North Berwick: 9.00 am to 1.00 pm and 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm

Prestonpans: 9.00 am to 1.00 pm

Dunbar Surgery is Temporarily Closed

HOW THESE NEW REMOTE SERVICES WILL WORK

If your horse needs to be seen by a vet

Call 01620 822262

We will discuss the best, safe option

If appropriate you will be offered a Video Consultation. Where possible this is the best and safest option for all concerned.

Payment will be taken by card over the phone and we will talk you through how to access the video consultation at your allocated time. During surgery hours our usual consultation fee will apply.

If medication is prescribed it can be collected safely from the Haddington surgery. Do not enter the building, instead call 01620 822262 when you arrive. If you are unable to collect your prescription from the surgery we can arrange postage or delivery for a small fee.

Out-of-Hours Video Consultations

We can also offer out-of-hours and weekend Video Consultations. These will be charged at an out of hours rate.

Safe Distancing Visits to your premises will only be available in emergency circumstances. This is due to the added risk of virus transmission, and the risk this poses for clients and staff.

Where it is the only option, we must carry this out observing safe distance guidelines. This means that we will need to send two vets to conduct an examination as it is not safe for our staff to come into close contact with clients.

For the safety of our staff, visits will not be available where the horse owner has virus symptoms or is self-isolating. Please call the surgery on 01620 822262 and we will discuss safer options.

Medication can be collected safely from our Haddington surgery.

  • For repeat prescriptions and worm treatments, call the surgery as normal to request these - 01620 822262
  • Payment will be taken by card over the phone as we cannot accept cash payments
  • When you arrive at the Haddington surgery do not enter the building. Instead call 01620 822262 on arrival and we will arrange a safe handover of your items

We appreciate that this is a huge change to the service that you are accustomed to, but it is the best way that we can continue to offer critical care to our patients when they need it, whilst limiting the risk of the spread of the virus, and helping to keep each other safe.

We want to take this opportunity to thank our amazing staff. They are all extremely dedicated to providing the best possible care for you and your pets even in these difficult circumstances.

We very much look forward to being able to resume our full service as soon as possible. In the meantime please stay safe.
