Covid-19 - Changes to Pet Services

FOCUSING ON ESSENTIAL EMERGENCY CARE

KEEPING EVERYONE SAFE

In these unprecedented times, extreme measures have become necessary to help halt the spread of Covid-19, and like everyone in the country, we at Links Vet Group must play our part. Caring for sick animals is in our DNA, and it’s vitally important to us that we continue to be able to provide essential urgent care for our clients’ pets. However, we must do this in a way that helps protect our clients, our staff and ultimately the wider community.

Following instructions from the Government and from our ruling body, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, we must temporarily cease our provision of routine preventative health care, and for the time-being provide only essential and emergency care, and do so in a way that minimises face-to-face contact. Therefore, until further notice we shall only carry out Video Consultations and Safe Distance Consultations.

IIMMEDIATE CHANGES TO PROTECT YOU & PROTECT OUR STAFF

As of today we are making the following important changes:

  • Only Health Emergencies and Essential Services will be carried out. Click here for more info
  • Vaccinations, Health Checks, Neuters, Dental Procedures and Other Preventative Health Care Appointments must be Postponed. We will be in touch once these can resume.
  • Only Video Consultations and Safe Distance Consultations will be offered (see detail below)
  • New Surgery Hours. We will be operating shorter hours and must suspend weekend opening temporarily, but this will enable us to keep all branches open, apart from our Dunbar branch.

MONDAY TO FRIDAY

Haddington: 9.00 am to 5.00 pm

Musselburgh and North Berwick: 9.00 am to 1.00 pm & 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm

Prestonpans: 9.00 am to 1.00 pm

Dunbar Branch is Closed Temporarily

HOW THESE NEW REMOTE SERVICES WILL WORK

If your pet is unwell, or if you need to book a repeat medication health check:

Call 01620 822262

We will assess if a Video Consultation or Safe Distance Consultation is appropriate

Where appropriate you will be offered a Video Consultation between 9.00 am to 5.00 pm Monday to Friday. Payment will be taken by card over the phone and we will talk you through how to access the video consultation at your allocated time. Our standard consultation fee of £42 will apply.

If medication is prescribed it can be collected safely from one of our surgeries following safe distancing procedures. Do not enter the building, instead call reception when you arrive. If you are unable to collect your prescription from the surgery we can arrange postage or delivery for a small fee.

Out-of-Hours Video Consultations

We can also offer out-of-hours and weekend Video Consultations. These will be charged at an Out-of-Hours rate.

In an emergency, where your pet needs to be examined by the vet, or if diagnostic tests or emergency surgery are required, you will be offered a Safe Distance Consultation. You will either be directed to come to one of our surgeries straight away, or you’ll be given an appointment. Payment will be taken by card over the phone.

  • Between 9.00 am to 5.00 pm Monday to Friday our usual consultation fee of £42 will apply.
  • There will be no charge for this consultation if you have already had a Video Consultation.
  • Out-of-hours and at weekends, Emergency Out-of-Hours Fees will apply.

For your own safety, and to avoid entering the building, you will be met in the car park by the vet and nurse, and your pet will be admitted. You will be asked to wait in the car while your pet is examined and the vet will call you on your mobile phone to discuss their findings/recommendations.

Where surgery is required, we will phone you when your pet is recovering from the anaesthetic. We’ll discuss how the procedure went and give you a time to collect your pet. Again, for your safety, we will bring your pet to you in the car park.

Food, Medications and Flea & Worm Treatments can be collected safely from our surgeries following safe distancing procedures.

  • For repeat prescriptions and flea & worm treatments, call the surgery as normal to request these
  • Where payment is due it will be taken by card over the phone as we cannot accept cash payments
  • When you arrive at the surgery do not enter the building. Instead call reception on arrival and we will arrange a safe handover of your items
  • If you are unable to collect your prescription from the surgery we can arrange postage or delivery for a small fee.
  • Delivery Fee up to 3 miles: £5
  • Delivery Fee 3 to 10 miles: £10

Home visits will only be available in extreme circumstances due to the added risk of virus transmission, and the risk this poses for clients and staff.

For the safety of our staff, home visits will not be available in households where anyone has virus symptoms or is self-isolating. Call the surgery on 01620 822262 and we will discuss safer options.

We appreciate that this is a huge change to the service that you are accustomed to, but it is the best way that we can continue to offer critical care to your pets when they need it, whilst limiting the risk of the spread of the virus, and helping to keep each other safe.

We want to take this opportunity to thank our amazing staff. They are all extremely dedicated to providing the best possible care for you and your pets even in these difficult circumstances.

We very much look forward to being able to resume our full service as soon as possible. In the meantime please stay safe.
