About Links Veterinary Group

The Links Veterinary Group was originally formed in 1885 in Haddington and has been operating from its current site at 44b Court St since 1973. For 20 years before this, it occupied the East wing of the current Bank of Scotland building. As the practice became more focussed on small animals, this was increasingly unsuitable, and so it secured the ground behind the bank building and erected a purpose built surgery there.

At this time, the practice emphasised its interest in small animal work by acquiring a premises in Station Road, North Berwick, and opening a branch surgery there every day for half an hour.

In 1982, the practice expanded again and bought premises in Dunbar's West Port, and again ran a short daily surgery.

In 1987, another expansion, this time into Musselburgh occurred. This time, the surgery was fully equipped with an operating theatre, and has been offering a full range of medical and surgical treatments ever since. Some modifications were carried out in 2002 to increase the working space available, and now the surgery has 2 vets and both a nurse and a receptionist.

By 2002, both North Berwick and Dunbar surgeries were struggling to meet the demand for their services, and adjacent premises were acquired at both sites. In North Berwick, the dental surgery next door was acquired and amalgamated into our existing unit. A fully equipped operating theatre was added, and a nurse and a receptionist were recruited, and since that time the surgery has been fully staffed and opens all day, also offering a full range of medical and surgical treatments.

In Dunbar, the practice moved into larger premises next door. Again, additional staff were recruited, and the surgery is open every afternoon for consultations, but has an operating theatre for emergency use should this be required.

Now, in 2008, it is evident that the practice has outgrown the main surgery in Haddington, and as a result, has acquired land on Haldane Avenue, and plans to build a state of the art hospital with significantly greater space than currently available. It is anticipated that work will be completed within 2008 and the move to the new centre is anticipated at the end of the year.
